review of colæ
I enjoy that my long-running idiotic idea - "if they can fortify milk and orange juice with supplemental vitamins, why can't they fortify soda, HUR HURRRR" - has become reality with the existence of Diet Coke Plus. Diet Coke with magnesium and zinc and a handful of B-vitamins thrown in. It tastes as one would expect: like Diet Coke with the faintest hint of multivitamin aftertaste. Which is fine enough, I suppose. Need to plow through a full twelve-pack before I can do a more substantive analysis.

Also, finally got around to consuming our holiday-themed novelty Jones Sodas - you know, the ones with flavors like "Turkey with Gravy". Better late than never, I suppose. They were suprisingly non-bad, on the whole, sticking mostly with vague allusions to the purported flavors than anything tongue-burstingly awful. I mean, not that I'd want to make a steady diet of consuming beverages that taste faintly of Pepto-Bismol... but I can see the "antacid-flavored soda" appeal.

We were disapointed in the vitamins included in the Diet Coke Plus, and the housemate wasn't fond of the taste, but I was ok with it.

It's a quirky taste, it is. I'm fine with it, I think, but I can see where others might not be.

And yes, I was totally let down by the vitamins included in Diet Coke Plus, too. I was really hoping for calcium enrichment and maybe some Vitamin C, real center-of-mass sort of stuff; a half-hearted magnesium and zinc supplement kind of pales in comparison.

I was tempted to try it, but I looked at the ingredients and noticed magnesium something was the second ingredient and I thought, "this can't taste good."

I think that's more a testament to how little stuff is actually in Diet Coke in the first place. I want to say that it's a tenth of a teaspoon worth of aspartame or thereabouts, with similarly miniscule amounts of colorant and flavoring oils to match. Got to keep all them amounts tiny to keep the "zero" calorie cap, don'tcha know. :-)

Mmm, the Jones holiday packs... At least this year's were only mildly nauseating. The ones from a couple years back had brussel sprout soda. And let me tell ya, THAT one was NASTY!! We had one person who couldn't even keep it down, and it could be smelled across the house and up the stairs and over the piney smell of christmas tree. It was truly horrifying!
We have some of the candycane one left over, if you didn't try that one. We didn't like it either! :p

Yeah, this year's selection was fairly banal, on the whole. Nothing that really turned my stomach or made me do a "that put hair on my chest!" eye-roll or anything. Haven't tried any previous years' offerings, though, so I've nothing to compare them to on that front.

Will happily accept any candy cane-flavored cola offerings that can floated my way, though. Anything for SCIENCE! I am a glutton for punishment!
